PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) launched Farmers for Prosperity to bring together agricultural leaders dedicated to leveraging American resources to tackle global hunger and expand American export markets. As food insecurity escalates due to growing global crises, American farmers and agri-businesses can help feed the world, while protecting our national security and making America more prosperous.

Cultivating Global Impact

TACKLING GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY

For decades, the U.S. has been at the forefront of addressing global hunger. Yet, 733 million people worldwide go to bed hungry each night. Hunger stifles economic growth, stunts child development, and perpetuates generational cycles of inequality. By supporting international food assistance and fostering global partnerships, American agriculture can change this trajectory.

PROTECTING OUR NATIONAL SECURITY

Hunger and conflict are deeply connected, creating a dangerous cycle that fuels migration and provides opportunities for extremist groups to expand. Threats like climate change, crop disease, and water scarcity don’t respect borders and threaten our national security. By investing in domestic and international agriculture, we are preparing for future challenges, building resilience, and strengthening both U.S. prosperity and national security.

ENSURING OUR ECONOMIC PROSPERITY

With 95% of the world’s consumers living outside the U.S., American agriculture depends on international markets. In 2023, U.S. exports of farm and food products totaled $174 billion. Growing these consumer markets through international development and strengthening these trade relationships help grow our agricultural sector and overall economic prosperity.

“To be able to see that and witness that firsthand, it was emotionally exhausting for sure,” said Gilpin, chief executive officer of the Kansas Wheat Commission and Kansas Association of Wheat Growers. “Seeing how many young people — that was probably the thing I wasn’t prepared for…At the end of the day, the U.S. and the Kansas wheat farmers want an opportunity to participate in global trade with fair trade,” Gilpin said. “We want to be able to address trade barriers that might exist around the world.”
